The story follows the ambitious Scottish general Macbeth as he is tempted by the prophecies of three witches and driven to commit murder in order to seize the throne of Scotland.  However, guilt and paranoia plague him as he becomes increasingly tyrannical, leading to further bloodshed and his eventual downfall. 

First written around 1606, this edition is derived from the book published in 1864 with 15 black & white illustrations by H. C. Selous. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
