Joseph Hilaire Pierre René Belloc
Considered by Belloc himself, and by most critics, his greatest work. The book is an account of his walking pilgrimage from Central France across the Alps to Rome. The recounting contains descriptions of the people and places Belloc encountered, his drawings in pencil and in ink of the route, humor, and poesy. The book is a partial fulfillment of Belloc’s vow to “…see all Europe which the Christian Faith has saved...”.
First published in 1902, this edition is derived from the original book with 79 black and white illustrations by Belloc himself. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
