The characters include the narrator, based on Jerome himself, and his two companions based on Jerome’s real-life friends. The dog, Montmorency is entirely fictional, but “as Jerome admits, developed out of the area of inner consciousness which, in all Englishmen, contains element of the dog.First published in 1889, this edition is derived from the original book with 75 black & white illustrations by A.
