Liberty
A philosophical essay by the English philosopher John Stuart Mill. It applies Mill’s ethical system of utilitarianism to society and state. He emphasizes the importance of individuality and asserts that democratic ideals may result in the tyranny of the majority. Mill proposes three basic liberties of individuals, his three legitimate objections to government intervention, and his two maxims regarding the relationship of the individual to society.

First published in 1859, this edition is derived from the book published in 1901 with introduction by W. L. Courtney.  As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
