Helena is hopelessly in love with Bertram, a nobleman. Despite her low social status, Helena cures the King of France, earning her the right to choose a husband from among the courtiers. She selects Bertram, but he rejects her and sets seemingly impossible conditions for their marriage. Through a series of cunning strategies and disguises, Helena ultimately wins Bertram's love and achieves a happy ending.
