A Tale
Jim, a young British seaman, becomes first mate on the Patna, a ship full of “pilgrims of an exacting belief.” When the ship starts rapidly taking on water, disaster seems imminent. The crew, including Jim, abandon the ship and it’s passengers to their fate. However, the Patna and it’s passengers are eventually rescued. Jim is publicly censured for this action and the novel follows his later attempts at coming to terms with himself and his past.First published in 1900, this edition is derived from the original book. As always, this edition is complete and unabridged.
